What People Are Saying
“LevelUp has undoubtedly been an asset to Skyland Elementary School. During their time at Skyland, my students have displayed improvements in reading and math. One student in particular, has exceeded above all expectations and has mastered his reading goal due to the dedication of Avery Reid and John Walker’s genuine support and guidance in my classroom. Because of their kindness, my students are excited to learn and have demonstrated growth in all academic areas.
LevelUp contributions and expertise made a difference in children’s lives at Skyland. This program has truly been a valuable asset and exhibited dedication to helping our students. It is my pleasure to acknowledge the LevelUp Program for being a success in my classroom and the entire school.”
— Denise Arrington, Special Education Teacher, Skyland Elementary School
“I love how they recognized our scholars on a weekly basis and highlighted their accomplishments in the classroom and rewarded them with a variety of treats or prizes. Our young men got a chance to see two young, African American men that were in college and dressed with shirts and ties and not with their pants hanging off their behinds. I know that I had boys that gave it their all because these young men made it okay for them to be smart and well behaved. The LeveUp mentors became a fixture around the school. They were being summoned from even lower grade teachers to come and share a word with particular students that needed some encouragement. They helped our scholars in any way they could. They tutored, shared wisdom, cheered, whatever the need at the moment, they did it. Skyland Elementary will forever be grateful for LevelUp!”
— Emma Adams, 5th Grade Teacher, Skyland Elementary School
“LevelUp offered mentoring and tutoring services primarily for our 4th and 5th grade scholars. Consistent interactions with students resulted in improved behaviors and academic progress. Scholars were recognized weekly not only for displaying our positive school expectations but also for displaying the key principles of LevelUp, striving for academic excellence to uplift one another for a greater purpose. Our scholars benefitted tremendously from this program because they were able to form a positive relationship with male role models who were pursuing careers in an area other than sports. This afforded our students the ability to think beyond athletics for success.”
